Practices in interviews with immigrants: Legal implications

Project goal:
Share professional experience in the interviews conducted with immigrants, with special regard to the legal consequences of interpretation, in the V4 countries and Ukraine. Create a comparative study of national reports on practices during the interview (interview), which will be available in English, Polish, Hungarian, Ukrainian, Czech and Slovak.
Detailed description of the project:
The V4 countries have similar experiences regarding immigration policies, treatment of foreigners and related challenges. In connection with the maintenance Shengen border Ukraine border is a key partner in the immigration procedures.
During interviews with immigrants in the verification of their authenticity are different. Misunderstandings between the parties to the interview may stem partly from their different cultural and social backgrounds, as well as the process of interpretation. Lack of knowledge and skills during the interview may have serious long-term immigrants for legal consequences. Activities of this project is therefore directed at improving the legal and cultural awareness and prevention of undesirable practices during interviews with immigrants.
Workshop with representatives of nonprofit organizations that provide legal assistance to immigrants - Polish and the Hungarian Helsinki Committee for Human Rights, a Czech organization for aid to refugees, Caritas Ukraine and Bratislava League for Human Rights will enhance cooperation in several areas:
- Exchange of experience regarding professional practice during the interview
- Focus on identifying the most common errors in interpreting
- Analysis of routine intervention of those who conduct interviews
- Preparation of educational materials and recommendations for professional standards in the conduct of interviews with immigrants
These activities will be electronically processed, translated and distributed in the V4 countries and Ukraine.
Target groups and benefitujúce:
Solicitors, interpreters, staff migration authorities, police personnel, judges, civil servants in touch with immigrants, migrants, asylum seekers.
Expected results:
The exchange current information partner organizations on standards of V4 countries in the management interview, transnational cooperation of NGOs in implementing procedures to define professional standards.
Development of reference material for staff and non-state sector, who run an interview with immigrants.
Reducing unintentional misunderstanding and lack of findings of fact in cases involving immigrants.
Distributing comparative study on the current state of interpretation and national reports in English, Polish, Hungarian, Czech, Ukrainian and Polish.
Linking with other relevant projects with the continuation of mutual cooperation.
Contributing to raising awareness about the rights of immigrants in civil society.
