Wednesday, February 9, 2011 representatives of Charity Foundation "Карітас-Caritas" of Greek Catholic Eparchy of Mukachevo took part in a series of events dedicated to the visit of head of UNHCR in Ukraine Oldrich Andrysek in Zakarpattya.
As part of this visit, there were meetings with the head of Zakarpattya Regional State Administration Oleksandr Ledydf and regional council chairman Ivan Baloga. The meeting was also attended by Deputy Head Volodymyr Goblyk and head of the migration service in the Zakarpattya region Mikola Tovt.
This is the first visit to Zakarpattya Oldrich Andrysek since taking his post in January this year. There is big interest in the border region, according to the Regional Representative of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees: The purpose of my visit today: learn about your vision problems and understand their decision. I am interested as conditions of detention of migrants and refugees in Zakarpattya, so plans - to visit detention at Chop border troop, and a Dormitory for women and children in Mukachevo.
![]() ![]() As part of the visit was visiting temporary holding facility in Chop border troop where representatives of UNHCR, IOM and government representatives and NGOs become acquainted with the premises where the detained migrants detained, with the conditions of detention and talk to detainees. Caritas staff presented their activity in providing legal, health and social care as part of GUMIRA project.
Head Chop border detachment during the visit presented the plans of the State Border Service of Ukraine to the reconstruction of the existing temporary holding facility and construction of a new item in 2011. On Thursday, 10 February, in the large conference hall of hotel "Ungvarskyy” hosted the 8-th Inter-agency meeting in which participated representatives of UNHCR, the International Organization for Migration, the EU Delegation in Ukraine, government agencies and NGOs. The main topic of this meeting was to discuss the current situation in the field of migration and asylum in 2010 and plans for 2011.
